What is Family Law?

Family law is a branch of law within the scope of civil law, which deals with family issues. The main subjects of family law are engagement, conditions and provisions of marriage, conditions and consequences of divorce, property regimes, family housing, maternity, adoption, custody, child's right to alimony, guardianship, trustee, legal counseling, and help alimony.Even though women's rights and children's rights form a separate field of study in their own right, they are also interested in family law.

Why is there family law?

Resolving disputes concerning the family law regulated in the Turkish Civil Code falls under the jurisdiction of the Family Courts.For this reason, all divorce cases must be opened in Family Courts regardless of the reason for divorce. Where there are no Family Courts, the Civil Court of First Instance is also responsible for looking at divorce and separation cases. The divorce is the termination of a marriage established by a court on the basis of the reasons and conditions prescribed by the law at the request of one of the spouses.
